      In 2024, Yellotec, in partnership with Teledyne FLIR’s advanced thermal imaging equipment, embarked on a specialised Tech Tour to provide a firsthand look at its exceptional capabilities in real-world defence applications.

      From high-speed target tracking to precision measurements in extreme conditions, these cutting-edge R&D instruments demonstrated their unparalleled accuracy, resolution, and speed. Throughout the testing process, the powerful combination of FLIR cameras, software, and SDKs showcased their ability to capture critical thermal data with ease, reinforcing their essential role in defence research and development. This experience not only highlighted the sophistication of FLIR technology but also underscored its impact in pushing the boundaries of innovation and operational effectiveness.

      With participation from Denel, ARMSCOR, SAAB, Incomar and CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research), the technology tour took place at several specialized defence testing sites and shooting ranges. Each location provided a unique environment to showcase the advanced capabilities of FLIR’s R&D instruments in real-world defence applications.

      During the tour, the Yellotec’s dedication and expertise in utilizing FLIR’s advanced thermal imaging technology were recognized with a prestigious R&D Science Platinum Partner Award of the Year from Teledyne FLIR.

      Johan Van Vuuren // Yellotec

      Johan Janse van Vuuren is an accomplished Registered Engineering Technician registered with (ECSA) with a career spanning over three decades in electrical maintenance and thermography. His journey began as an apprentice in the gold mines of South Africa, where he honed his skills in electrical and mechanical disciplines. In 1992, Johan earned his National Diploma in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, solidifying his expertise in the field.

      Driven by a passion for continuous learning, Johan furthered his education by completing the Middle Management Programme at Northwest University in Vanderbijlpark. His career took an exciting turn when he was introduced to thermography, a cutting-edge field that uses infrared technology and gas detection to detect issues in electrical, mechanical, and petrochemical facilities. As a certified Level III Thermographer (ITC & ISO 18436-7), Johan became a pioneer in the use of GasfindIR (OGI) cameras in South Africa. In 2007, he became the first technician in the country trained to use and sell these advanced cameras, which play a crucial role in reducing VOC emissions and enhancing predictive maintenance programs.

      Johan joined Yellotec in 2007, where he serves as a Sales Engineer and a key trainer for Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) gas detection courses. His expertise, dedication, and leadership in the field have made him a trusted figure in the application of thermography technology for maintenance in various industries, including electrical, mechanical, and petrochemical sectors.

      Designed for research and development (R&D) applications, these cameras cater to both mid-wave infrared (MWIR) and longwave infrared (LWIR) spectrums. The new models, the X6980-HS high-speed series and the X8580-HS high-resolution series, enhance the FLIR X-Series’ performance capabilities.

      The high-speed (HS) models feature 10GigE and CoaXPress (CXP) 2.1 interfaces for over an hour of rapid image streaming and data transfer. Additionally, they offer on-camera recording with a removable NVMe SSD, ensuring lossless recording of critical thermal events. A four-terabyte (TB) high-speed SSD is standard on all X-Series HS cameras, enabling hours of thermal data recording without frame drops.

Born in Sinop, Turkey, in 1979, he pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Yıldız Technical University, graduating in 2003. Building upon his academic foundation, Gökhan earned a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in 2006, followed by another Master’s degree in Business Administration from the same university in 2021.

      Gökhan’s career journey began in 2006 as a Sales Engineer in a Japanese Corporation, where he demonstrated his expertise and dedication. Over the years, he excelled in his role and took on more significant responsibilities. From 2013 to 2016, he oversaw the Middle East & Africa office, leaving a lasting impact on the company’s operations in the region.

      In February 2016, Gökhan’s exceptional skills led him to join Teledyne FLIR as a Sales Manager, taking charge of the Turkish market. With his outstanding performance and leadership, he currently serves as the Team Leader, overseeing diverse regions, including Middle East, Sub Sahara Africa, CIS, Israel, and Turkey.

      Along with a master degree in mechanical engineering from National School of Engineering (France) Omar KENFAOUI, began his career within design for technical departments in railway industry) and pump manufacturing using advanced design & modeling softwares.

      Omar continued his journey in the world of rotating equipment with a move to field and service engineering by joining in France one of the leaders in condition monitoring and laser alignment systems “Prüftechnik” now part of Fluke Reliability where Omar was in charge of defining solutions and root cause analysis procedure related to large & critical machinery troubleshooting.

      Omar is fully dedicated for growing Fluke Reliability Path in Middle-East and Africa region where he has been involved in many industrial projects, running several trainings and services.
